The Department of Medicinal Chemistry had an exceptional 2023-24 academic year, making tremendous strides and achieving records in several areas. A few of the major accomplishments are:
- Between July 1, 2023 and June 30, 2024, the department secured $9.8 million in research funding, which is roughly $1.5 million more than in the previous fiscal year.
- The department generated 71 peer-reviewed publications, were granted 5 new US patents, submitted 14 invention disclosures, filed 27 new patent applications, and entered a record number of 9 licensing and option agreements.
- The department welcomed 11 new graduate students in August 2024, the largest incoming cohort ever.
- The UF Scripps Chemistry faculty are now affiliated with the department, and the two entities are jointly recruiting a new faculty member.
- Striving for global leadership, the Center for Natural Products, Drug Discovery and Development recently executed an agreement with another research powerhouse, Duke-NUS Medical School in Singapore, to join forces in natural products drug discovery and translation.
